B.I.L.B.: Following Your Dreams

I believe that we have to follow our traditions, but follow our dreams too!!! Some traditions are very extreme or fanatical;they are too much. I think that we would have to find a intermediate point or solution that would be fine for everybody. We see in the film when Jessmindher wants to play soccer and her mother doesn’t want. I think that the final solution is the appropriate and the best one (Jess can play football).

B.I.L.B.: Stealing best friends' girl/boyfriends

I think that, stealing your best friend's boyfriend is wrong, because you win a boyfriend but you also lose your best friend who you know ever since. But if you do not lose the boy you win more confidence with your friend. If he isn't her boyfriend, it doesn't matter, like in the movie where the coacth and Jules weren't together and Jess doesn't do anything wrong.

B.I.L.B.: Following Your Dreams

In this story the topic of following our dreams is very clear and important: Jess wants to be a footballer but her parents want her to be a lawyer. A girl who plays football isn't normal in her culture, they consider it a man's sport where she isn't going to be respected for being Indian. Following our dreams is essential because it determines our lives and even if you failed, at least you would have tried! You have to choose how you want your life to be and your parents should help by giving you some advice, but in no way should they force you.

B.I.L.B.: Stealing best friends' girl/boyfriends

I think that it isn't good to steal your best friend's boy/girlfriend, since friends are for your whole life and boy/girlfriends not. I don't think that it's worth risking their friendship for a boy or a girl. In the movie, I don't think so, because Jules is not going out with Joe, she only says that she likes him. That does not give her the right to reproach anything to her friend.

B.I.L.B.: Stealing best friends' girl/boyfriends

First let’s talk about the movie. I think that Jess didn’t steal the other girl’s friend (Jules’s) because, in the first place they weren’t in a couple, so it isn’t considered as stealing. It would only be considered stealing if they made a pact involving not going out with him, but I doubt thats the case. Now, what would I do? Stealing you friends girlfriend’s just wrong I wouldn’t even try it, that can easily destroy any friendship.

Manuel

B.I.L.B.:Stealing best friends' girl/boyfriends

In the film, Jess loves Joe, her coach, but her new best friend, Jules, a British woman, loves Joe, too.
When they go to
Germany to play an important match (they lose it), in the party, Jess kisses Joe, and Jules sees that, so they become really angry.
I’m sure that I will never steal my best friend’s girlfriend, first, because he is my best friend, and he is my best friend for something, and second, because my best friend is for all my life, and a girlfriend could be for a few days, months, or years.
We shouldn’t steal best friends’ girlsfriend, because we have to think in the feelings of our best friend.
But...if that girl is with someone that you don’t know, you are free to do what do you want

Bend It Like Bekham's Reflections on Immigration

The immigrant family consider British people like bad people. They think the British people are racist, but racism comes from the two sides, because they don´t accept them, either. ``We hate other cultures´´ because some times we think our culture is the best in the world... but we are wrong.

Bend It Like Bekham's Reflections on Immigration

The Sikh family of the hero (Jessminder) are suspicious of everithing which is coming from British people. For example they think they are too liberal, they don't respect anything, they don't respect their traditions, they don't look after their old people (and they don't care anymore, except for the funeral), they don't mix. They are locked in their traditions, and because of it, they are intolerant.

Adverts: I hate them or I love them?

Adverts: I hate them or I love them?

I definitely have to say that I love adverts. But first of all I should start from defining what an advert is; a picture, short film, song, etc. which tries to persuade people to buy a product or service (Cambridge Dictionary).

As we observe and understand the definition, we can see that everything around us is considered an advertisement. We are involved in the world of commerce even though we don’t notice; when we walk down the street, while we watch the television, the moment we read the newspaper, among others.

Every advert is entitled to make you buy. For example the M from McDonalds has become a great advert all around the world because when we see it we instantly want to eat a hamburger . It’s incredible how an image can make you feel what other people want. While these advertisements make you buy, they can also make you think and laugh.

One of the MasterCard’s commercial may be a situation in which you think a lot about your life. Think about what really matters in your life because for the material things exists MasterCard. On the other hand, we can have fun by watching the Fiat, Pepsi, Nike commercials, etc.

Whereas some of them are very real, there are others that may try to introduce us in a new world of imagination. As we can see in the last Coca Cola commercial in which someone inserts coin in the machine and while the bottle falls he is supposedly going through that wonderful cartoon life.

Adverts are useful for everybody. For sellers and for the ones who buy because they make us laugh, think, imagine, create, feel and express.

English in the World

English in the World

Every language is important in our culture and it is useful to learn some of them, but which language should we learn first? I think it must be English and I emphasize this as an obligation rather than a suggestion because nowadays it has become a necessity for communication.

English is being taught all around the world. Why? Easy question; it is the first tool for any kind of business. When someone is looking for a job, it is easier to be hired if he or she speaks English. Globalization is making English the most important language for people. Products, commercials, songs, movies, among others, are being written, spoken or translated every day so people can understand what is going on in other parts of the planet.

The average of English speaking people grows every year. I think that someday everyone will be able to communicate and speak in English. I hope that we learn English as we should and I also wish that the rest of the languages keep their style and don’t get extinct.

ADVICE

ADVICE

Good advice is usually given by people who have a lot behind them, who have thought a lot, who have seen things, been places, met people... Someone who is more than 17 years old and that has at least lived, for I am just starting to truly taste what life is like, is more likely to be able to offer good advice, but since I'm forced to, I'll try and say something useful. People sometimes ask themselves if people change, and there is no true answer to that question. Don't think about it, don't try to change people, don't tell them to stay the way they are. Be true to yourself, it is important not to harm people with lies, but the first step is to be true to yourself, don't let other people tell you who you are, don't fool yourself, don't let the society guide your way, there are better guides around you.

Samira’s Story

Samira’s Story

Back then I was much too young, much too naïf and too bloody ignorant to know better, it happened just all too soon for me, I wasn’t ready for this change, I just wasn’t. But then again, how could I be? I was just 13! Besides the difficult position I was put into it must have been the best day of my life, it was the day that my life changed, that my life had been given another meaning, a much powerful one, one that would last a life time. It was the day that for the first time I looked into her eyes and realised how fortunate I really was.

The most awful day of my life was the day I decided to do something that might not be really well seen morally but it was something I had to do for myself but especially for her. I knew I had no other option; there was no other way out because if there was, trust me, I wouldn’t have even thought about doing it. The few clothes I had on were sticking on to my body, I felt embarrassed, I had the feeling everybody was looking at me with the image I was giving to society. I had begun to feel really sick, I couldn’t avoid thinking about this horrible thing I got myself into and everything it would implicate doing. Yes, it is easy money but all the things you have to go through compensate it all, believe me. That day I connected with several individuals in just a few hours, money was rolling in and suddenly all those bad feelings were replaced by hope and just a tiny bit of happiness.
